Should You Worry About SEO Competition on the Internet?

Don't be put off by the fact that there is a lot of competition in a niche you want to be a part of. All of this means you have a good idea and it's a proven moneymaker based on how many other people want a piece of the pie as well.

SEO Competition

Competition is advantageous because it demonstrates a niche's track record. What you want to do is offer something to that niche that your competitors aren't.

For example, after the Kindle was released, a slew of companies jumped on board and began selling protective cases in a variety of designs and colors to people who bought the Kindle and other electronic devices.

However, one company decided to create a niche with theft protection in mind and created a cover that resembles an old book - protecting the Kindle from scratches as well as from the view of would-be thieves. They took a niche, narrowed it down, and raced ahead of the competition, and are now reaping large profits.

Any product that is laser-focused on a specific market will always outperform the competition. If you want to work a weight loss niche, you'll find that the market is flooded with weight loss websites, books, and other products.

Because of this oversaturation, it's easy for consumers to develop "blind eye" when it comes to anything new on the weight loss scene. So you would take the weight loss topic and narrow it down to just one small aspect of weight loss.

You could limit your search to organic weight loss products or information. You could also target only women who have recently given birth and want to lose weight and get back in shape.

The trick is to reinvent an old topic. Consider how many magazine headlines you've read. There is never a new topic; only a new spin on something that has been around for centuries.

This is where doing your homework comes in handy. Once you've decided on a niche that interests you, conduct a thorough investigation of the competition in that niche. What do they have to say? Who is their intended audience? Who is being excluded from the audience? How can that niche be made more valuable to the consumer?

Keyword research is one method of determining what people are looking for in a niche. You can use free keyword tools to research the keywords that your target audience uses when searching for information about the topic. That may help you come up with ideas for narrowing your niche's focus.
