5 Tips for Choosing a Successful Blogging Categories

How do you pick the best blogging category for your site? There are many factors to consider when making this decision, and some of them might not be immediately apparent until later in your blogging career. Use these five tips for choosing the best blogging category for your business so that you can be prepared to face whatever challenges may come your way.

1) Do you have time?

If you're working outside of your home, chances are you don't have an endless amount of free time. And if you do, there's probably no reason to spend it writing; unless, of course, you're able to earn a living through blogging. If that's not your goal, make sure you pick categories that allow you to maintain your real life and still create amazing content.

2) Do you have the interest?

One of the biggest questions bloggers ask when deciding on a blogging category is whether or not they have an interest in writing about it. It may seem like something to put off until later, but choosing an area that interests you ensures that you’ll write about it with passion and enthusiasm. This type of passion is infectious to readers—and will make them want to return again and again!

3) Do you want to write about it?

The first thing you should do when deciding on your blogging categories is determine whether you want to write about it. Are you passionate about DIY projects? Do you have any special expertise in personal finance or food allergies? Whatever topic it is, if you’re excited to write about it, then that’s a good sign. It might also be helpful to check out what topics other bloggers are writing about; there’s nothing wrong with sticking to what works.

4) Does it make sense for SEO?

SEO, or search engine optimization, is all about optimizing your posts so that they show up higher in Google search results. While SEO is an important consideration when you choose a category, it’s not your only consideration. And even if you don’t optimize your posts specifically for SEO, think of other ways that category might affect your ability to connect with potential readers.

5) Which is more important? Total number of visitors or loyal readers?

There are two main approaches to choosing a category. Some will choose whichever gets them more traffic, while others will try to think about which niche has loyal readers who visit on a regular basis. The question you need to ask yourself is what's more important, total number of visitors or loyal readers? My personal preference is to go with loyal readers. I prefer someone who reads my posts regularly over someone who checks in every now and then.
